You can fly non-stop from Košice to Liverpool. Ryanair is the only airline on the route and has operated it since October 2020. The flight takes just under three hours, but something other than flight time matters more when you plan the trip: the plane leaves Košice late in the evening and lands in Liverpool after 1:00 a.m. local time. By then the main bus into the city centre no longer runs from the airport. The return flight is no easier – it lands in Košice after the last daytime city bus. Read on to find out what to expect at both ends of the journey.
Who flies from Košice to Liverpool, and how often
Ryanair operates the direct connection to Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL). The route launched on 25 October 2020 as the airline’s third route from Košice and has since been one of the steady links to the United Kingdom alongside London. The distance as the crow flies is about 1,760 km.
In September and October 2026 the flight left Košice twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. Under Ryanair’s winter schedule, which runs from 25 October 2026 to the end of March 2027, the route increases to three flights a week. Exact days and times can shift with the change of season, so always check them in the Košice flight schedule before buying a ticket. An overview of all of this airline’s routes is on the Ryanair from Košice page.
Flight times: late-evening departure, arrival after midnight
According to flight records from September and October 2026, the flight left Košice at 23:15 or 23:25 and landed in Liverpool at around 1:05 to 1:15 local time. The westbound flight takes roughly 2 hours 50 minutes. The return flight departs from Liverpool at around 19:25 UK time and lands in Košice at about 22:45.
Don’t forget the time difference: the UK is one hour behind Slovakia. When it is 1:00 a.m. in Košice, it is only midnight in Liverpool – flight schedules always show local times. The switch to winter time happens in both countries on the same day, 25 October 2026, so the one-hour difference stays the same all year.
Arriving in Liverpool at night: how to get into the city
John Lennon Airport is on the south-eastern edge of Liverpool. During the day the connection to the centre is easy:
- Bus 500 (Arriva) – a direct express to the city centre, stopping at Liverpool ONE bus station and Lime Street railway station. It runs every 30 minutes, the journey takes about 30 minutes and a single ticket costs £2.
- Bus 86A – runs more frequently and also stops at Liverpool South Parkway railway station, where trains continue to other parts of northern England.
The catch is that, according to the airport and the operator, bus 500 runs from 4:00 to midnight. If you land at around one in the morning, you will miss it, and even the first morning 86A service leaves the centre only at 4:13. After a night arrival from Košice, the realistic options are therefore a taxi, a pre-booked transfer or a hotel near the airport. You can check current night services in the journey planner of the local transport authority, Merseytravel.
If a friend is picking you up by car, bear in mind that parking right in front of the terminal (Express Drop Off) in Liverpool is charged even for a short stop – 10 minutes costs £5, 20 minutes £10 and one hour £25. You pay when you leave.
Returning to Košice: landing after the last bus
The return flight lands in Košice at around 22:45. However, from 1 October 2026 the last daytime departure of city bus line 23 from the airport leaves at 22:07 on weekdays and 22:17 on days off. After arriving from Liverpool, that leaves night line N3 at 23:53, a taxi or a ride with Bolt. Further options, including connections to Prešov and Michalovce, are on the page about getting to Košice Airport.
If you are travelling for a few days and have a car, it may be more practical to leave it right at the terminal – prices and types of parking are on the page about parking at Košice Airport. That way you avoid waiting for a night service after a late arrival.
Documents and entry to the United Kingdom
To enter the United Kingdom, Slovak citizens (and other EU citizens) need a passport – an ID card is not accepted for entry. In addition to the passport, you must have an approved UK ETA electronic travel authorisation before departure; it is obtained online and is valid for two years or until your passport expires. We describe the procedure in detail in the article UK ETA for Britain from Košice, and an overview of the documents you need is in the article travel documents for flights from Košice.
Because this is a flight outside the Schengen area, passport control awaits you when you leave Košice and again when you arrive in Liverpool. Allow plenty of time at the airport – when to arrive and how check-in works is explained in the article on check-in at Košice Airport.
Why fly to Liverpool
Liverpool is interesting for travellers from eastern Slovakia for several reasons. Besides the city itself, with its docks, museums, the legacy of The Beatles and football at Anfield, it is also a practical gateway to north-west England – from Liverpool South Parkway railway station you can continue towards Manchester and other towns in the region. For many Slovaks working in England, the route is also the fastest way home without a change of flight.
