Bratislava

Bratislava sits at the opposite end of Slovakia from Košice, yet the direct air link makes it less than an hour away. The capital offers a compact old town you can cross on foot, a Danube waterfront, the vineyards of the Little Carpathians and a lively cultural and food scene.

Bratislava Castle

• The city’s landmark above the Danube, home to the Museum of Slovak History, a baroque garden and one of the best views over the city, Austria and Hungary. Entry to the grounds is free; exhibitions are ticketed.

Old Town and the Main Square

• The coronation city of Hungarian kings: the Old Town Hall, the Primate’s Palace with its famous Hall of Mirrors, Michael’s Gate and narrow lanes full of cafés. Bronze crowns set into the pavement mark the coronation route.

St Martin’s Cathedral

• The Gothic church where eleven Hungarian monarchs were crowned, including Maria Theresa. A gilded model of a crown tops the tower instead of a cross.

UFO and the SNP Bridge

• An observation deck on the bridge pylon at 95 metres, with a restaurant and terrace. The best place to see the contrast between the old town and the Petržalka housing estate.

Devín and the Danube

• A castle ruin at the confluence of the Danube and the Morava, reachable by boat or cycle path in season. An international cycle route runs along the Danube all the way to Vienna.

Galleries and museums

• The renovated Slovak National Gallery, the Danubiana near Čunovo and the Bratislava City Museum are the best options in poor weather.

Flights from Košice to Bratislava

The domestic route is operated by Wizz Air. Since 21 March 2026 the summer timetable offers 13 flights a week – a morning and an evening rotation every day except Wednesday, when only a morning service runs. That frequency makes same-day business trips practical. The flight takes about an hour, a considerable saving over the train or car.

Practical information

• From the airport to the centre: M. R. Štefánik Airport is about 9 km from the centre. City buses 61 and 96 run to the main railway station in roughly 20–25 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing services wait at the terminal.
• Best time to visit: May to September for the terraces and riverfront; late November and December for the Christmas markets on the Main and Franciscan squares.
• Getting around: a single ticket covers buses, trolleybuses and trams; the historic core can be walked in half a day.
• Day trips: Vienna is an hour away by train, and the wine towns of Svätý Jur and Pezinok less than half an hour.
