What to see in Liverpool

• Royal Albert Dock – the 19th-century docks, today a cultural hub with museums, galleries, shops and restaurants.
• The Beatles Story – the museum at the Albert Dock dedicated to the life and career of the most famous British band.
• Waterfront – the riverside skyline with the “Three Graces”, including the Cunard Building and the Royal Liver Building topped by the famous Liver Birds.
• Liverpool Cathedral – the largest cathedral in Britain, an impressive Gothic Revival building with views over the city from its tower.
• The Cavern Club and Mathew Street – the legendary club where the Beatles played in their early years, in a street full of music bars.
• Anfield – the home of Liverpool FC; a stadium tour or a match is a must for football fans.
• Tate Liverpool and Walker Art Gallery – modern art and a rich collection of European art spanning several centuries.
• Sefton Park – a large Victorian park with a lake and the Palm House.

Flights from Košice to Liverpool

Ryanair operates a direct year-round route from Košice Airport to Liverpool. In the summer schedule it usually flies twice a week; for the winter season the airline has increased the frequency to three flights a week. Days and times change between seasons, so always check before booking. If the direct flight doesn’t suit your dates, alternatives are connecting in Dublin, also served from Košice by Ryanair, or flying to London and taking the train from Euston to Liverpool Lime Street, which takes a little over two hours. Practical information

• Airport: Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) is about 12 km from the centre. Express buses run into town in about 30 minutes.
• Best time to visit: May to September, when the weather is most settled and the city is full of festivals – but rain is possible in Liverpool all year round.
• Getting around: the centre, including the Albert Dock and Mathew Street, is easy to explore on foot; buses and Merseyrail trains serve the outer districts.
• Tip: if you plan to see a match at Anfield or at Everton’s stadium, buy tickets several weeks in advance – on match days even city-centre hotels sell out.
