Flights from Košice to London: Stansted or Luton? Not on Sunday

London is reachable non-stop from Košice, but not on one route and certainly not to one airport. Ryanair serves London Stansted, Wizz Air flies to London Luton – nine departures a week in total. On Sunday, however, not a single aircraft leaves Košice for London. And the difference between the two airports does not end with the fare: the journey from Stansted into central London takes almost twice as long as from Luton.

Two routes, two London airports

Košice Airport (KSC) has two scheduled routes to the British capital, each operated by a different carrier:

  • Ryanair – London Stansted (STN): five departures a week, flight time roughly 2 hours 35 minutes. The route is flown by a Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats in a single class.
  • Wizz Air – London Luton (LTN): four departures a week, afternoon departure, flight time roughly 2 hours 45 minutes. The aircraft is an Airbus A321neo with 239 seats.

The capacity gap matters: Wizz Air offers fifty more seats per flight to Luton than Ryanair does to Stansted. In practice that means when one flight sells out, the other route may still have seats – but only on the days it actually operates. Always check current departure times in the flight schedule and, on the day of travel, in the arrivals and departures overview.

Which days Košice flies to London – and which it does not

This is the most important and least known thing about the London routes from Košice. The operating days barely overlap:

  • Wednesday, Friday, Saturday – both routes operate, so you can choose Stansted or Luton.
  • Tuesday and Thursday – only Ryanair to Stansted.
  • Monday – only Wizz Air to Luton.
  • Sunday – nothing flies from Košice to London.

That empty Sunday is decisive when you plan a long weekend. If you need to be at work on Monday morning, you have to fly home on Saturday, or wait for the Monday service and arrive in the evening. The alternative is landing at another airport in the region – but then add several hours of driving or a train ride to your journey.

Operating days and times also shift with the season: the winter schedule runs from late October to late March, the summer schedule from late March. If you are booking several months ahead, do not rely on today pattern but on the specific date in the airline booking engine.

Stansted or Luton? The ground journey decides

Stansted is closer in the air, Luton is closer in travel time. From Stansted, the Stansted Express train takes you to London Liverpool Street in 48 minutes and runs roughly every 15 minutes. It is comfortable, direct and reliable, but it swallows almost three quarters of an hour.

From Luton the process has two steps, yet it ends up faster. The terminal is linked to Luton Airport Parkway railway station by the automated Luton DART, which covers the distance in under four minutes. From Parkway you have two options: the London Luton Airport Express reaches London St Pancras non-stop in 24 minutes, so the whole trip from the terminal into the centre takes around 28 minutes. Ordinary Thameslink services make several stops and need 40 to 50 minutes to St Pancras.

So the gap is not cosmetic: although the flight to Luton is ten minutes longer, you reach central London from Luton up to twenty minutes sooner than from Stansted. Buy your ticket to or from the station called Luton Airport – the DART ride is then part of a single journey and you do not have to deal with it separately on arrival.

UK ETA and border control in Košice

The United Kingdom is outside the European Union and outside the Schengen area, so in terms of paperwork a flight from Košice to London is unlike a flight to Vienna or Warsaw. You need a passport – a national ID card is not enough to enter Britain. You must also obtain the electronic UK ETA before travelling; without it you will not be allowed to board. The full procedure and the right time to apply are covered in our article on the UK ETA for departures from Košice.

Flights outside Schengen also pass through border control in Košice, which does not apply on services to Vienna, Warsaw or Zürich. The Košice terminal is small, but the longest queues before that control form precisely on the British and Irish routes – factor it in when you decide what time to arrive.

Check-in: from 10 November 2026 you need to be earlier

From 10 November 2026 Ryanair closes airport check-in and bag drop 60 minutes before departure instead of the previous 40 minutes. The change affects only passengers checking a bag into the hold; anyone travelling with cabin baggage who has checked in online is unaffected. Wizz Air has not announced a similar change. Recommended arrival times and how security screening works are set out in our guide to check-in at Košice Airport. Ryanair rules and routes from Košice are summarised on a dedicated Ryanair page.

Practical tips before departure from Košice

The afternoon departure to Luton is convenient from eastern Slovakia – you can make it without getting up in the middle of the night. Morning services, on the other hand, mean an early transfer to the airport. Bus, train and car options are described on the transport to the airport page, and if you leave your car behind, the zones and conditions are listed under parking.

What awaits you in the city itself, and where to head on the first day, is summarised in our destination profile of London.

One last piece of advice sounds obvious but pays off twice on these routes: check which London airport you are actually flying to. Stansted and Luton sit tens of kilometres apart on opposite sides of the city, and mixing them up costs you an hour and the price of a journey you never planned.
