Flights from Košice to Málaga: Days, Winter and City Transfer

You can fly direct from Košice to Málaga – Ryanair operates the route twice a week, and from the 2026/2027 winter season it keeps flying throughout the whole winter for the first time. The flight takes just under four hours, there is no time difference, and because Spain is part of the Schengen Area there is no passport control at the airport. The biggest surprise, however, is not the ticket but the weather: in December and January Málaga gets roughly three to four times as many hours of sunshine as Košice.

Who flies from Košice to Málaga and how often

Ryanair is the only airline on the route. It opened it in spring 2026 as its sixth route from Košice. According to the airport, the first flight was full to the last seat – 189 passengers on board a Boeing 737-800. The airport’s spokesperson described Málaga as Košice’s first year-round “sunshine” destination.

In summer and autumn 2026 the route ran twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. Ryanair’s winter schedule, valid from 25 October 2026 until the end of March 2027, keeps Málaga at two flights a week. According to the airline, it is the only direct winter connection between eastern Slovakia and Spain. Some sources mention a shift in operating days for the winter, so always check the exact days and times in the Košice flight schedule before booking. Other routes of the airline are listed on our Ryanair from Košice page.

Flight time: almost four hours, but no clock change

The two airports are about 2,470 km apart as the crow flies, and according to published schedules the flight takes roughly 3 hours 50 minutes. That is noticeably longer than a flight to London or Dublin – keep it in mind when choosing a seat or packing snacks. Košice and Málaga are in the same time zone, so the time on your boarding pass is local time at both ends.

The route is operated with a single-class Boeing 737-800. With Ryanair, only a small under-seat bag is included in the basic fare – what fits in it and when it pays to add more is covered in our article on Ryanair and Wizz Air cabin baggage.

Málaga in winter: three times more sunshine than Košice

Winter Málaga is not a beach holiday, but walking around in a long-sleeved T-shirt is quite normal. According to the long-term normals of the Spanish meteorological service AEMET (Málaga airport station, 1981–2010), the average daily maximum is 16.8 °C in January, 17.5 °C in December and 17.7 °C in February. On average there are fewer than six days with at least 1 mm of rain in January.

The difference in sunshine is even bigger. Málaga averages 160 hours of sunshine in December and 180 in January. Košice, according to the 1991–2020 normals, gets only 41 hours in December and 57 in January, with an average January maximum of around 1 °C. In other words, December alone in Málaga has more sunshine hours than December and January in Košice combined. That is what makes the winter route more interesting than the summer one – in July there is sunshine at home too.

Accommodation tip: as of September 2026 Andalusia did not levy a tourist tax, so unlike Barcelona or Mallorca your hotel in Málaga will not add a nightly charge at check-out. Do check before you travel, as the topic keeps coming up in Spain.

From Málaga Airport to the city centre

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport handled more than 26 million passengers in 2025, yet it is close to the city. The easiest option is the C1 Cercanías commuter train, which stops right at the terminal. It takes about 12 minutes to the centre (María Zambrano and Centro-Alameda stations), runs roughly every 20 minutes during the day, and a single ticket costs €1.80 according to the airport. You can also pay with a contactless card at the gates.

An alternative is the A Express city bus, which runs from the airport to the city centre. If you land in the evening, check the time of the last train on the Renfe website before departure – after a late arrival a taxi is often the only sensible option. What to see in the city and how to get around is covered in our Málaga destination guide.

Documents: an ID card is enough

The flight from Košice to Málaga stays within Schengen, so there is no border control on departure or arrival and the new EES system does not apply to you as an EU citizen. Slovak citizens can travel with a valid national ID card or passport – but you must carry it, as Ryanair checks it at the boarding gate.

Two flights a week: how to plan your stay

With two weekly frequencies, the length of your stay cannot be chosen freely. You will end up with either a shorter stay of three or four nights or a full week, or a multiple of it. So check the actual flight days first and only then book accommodation. If you leave home early in the morning or return late in the evening, sort out parking at Košice Airport or transport to the airport in advance. Live arrivals are on our arrivals and departures page.
