You can fly from Košice to Dublin non-stop – Ryanair operates the route twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Unlike the British routes from Košice, this one runs at convenient times: departures are in the afternoon or early evening and return flights land in Košice in daylight. Ireland is an EU member but not part of the Schengen Area, so you go through passport control at both ends. For Ireland itself, however, a Slovak national ID card is enough – until you decide to continue into Northern Ireland.
Who flies from Košice to Dublin and how often
Ryanair is the only airline on the route, which it launched on 31 October 2021. That brought back a Košice–Dublin connection after thirteen years – the last direct flights before that ran in 2008. The distance between the airports is about 1,980 km, and the route is flown with Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
In September and October 2026 the flight operated twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. According to Ryanair’s winter schedule, valid from 25 October 2026 to the end of March 2027, Dublin stays at two weekly flights through the winter. Days and times may shift with the change of season, so always check the Košice flight schedule before booking. Ryanair’s other routes are listed on our Ryanair from Košice page.
Flight times: no late-night arrivals
Based on flight records from September and October 2026, the Sunday flight left Košice at around 13:15 and landed in Dublin at about 15:20 local time. The Wednesday flight departed in the early evening, usually between 18:30 and 19:10, and reached Dublin around 20:30 to 21:00. The westbound flight takes roughly three hours because it flies into the prevailing wind.
The return flight is shorter, about two and a half hours. On Sundays it left Dublin at around 9:00 and landed in Košice at 12:20; on Wednesdays it departed after 14:00 and arrived in Košice between 17:30 and 18:15. Ireland is one hour behind Slovakia and switches to winter time on the same day, 25 October 2026. Timetables always show local times.
From Dublin Airport to the city centre
Dublin Airport lies about 10 km north of the city centre and has no rail link. You get into town by bus or taxi:
- Aircoach 700 and 700X – coaches to the city centre running up to every 15 minutes, around the clock, so they are a safe option even if the Wednesday evening flight is delayed. The journey takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.
- Dublin Express 782 and 784 – express routes about every 30 minutes, stopping near Trinity College, along the River Liffey quays and at Heuston Station, where trains leave for the south and west of Ireland.
- City routes 16 and 41 – the cheapest but slower option on the Transport for Ireland network, best value with a Leap card.
- Taxi – ranks outside both terminals; a ride to the centre costs roughly €30 to €45.
A single ticket on the express coaches costs about €8 to €10 depending on the operator and how you buy it, usually less online. Check current fares directly with the operators.
Documents: what works for Ireland and what does not beyond it
Slovak citizens can travel to Ireland with a valid national ID card or a passport. Because Ireland does not apply the Schengen rules, documents are checked on departure from Košice and again on arrival in Dublin – so allow a little more time at the airport than for a flight to Prague. Our airport FAQ covers when to arrive and how check-in works.
Here is the catch many travellers miss. If you plan a trip from Dublin to Belfast or elsewhere in Northern Ireland, you are entering the United Kingdom. Since April 2025 EU citizens need a UK ETA electronic travel authorisation there even when arriving overland from the Republic of Ireland, although there are no checkpoints at the border. The ETA is linked to a passport – you cannot get one with an ID card.
Returning to Košice and getting home from the airport
Return flights from Dublin land in Košice at lunchtime or in the early evening, while city bus line 23 is still running. Unlike flights from Liverpool or London, you do not have to rely on a night bus or a taxi. If you are heading on to Prešov, Michalovce or Humenné, see our page on transport to Košice Airport.
If you drive, compare parking at Košice Airport in advance for a Sunday-to-Wednesday stay or a full week. With two flights a week, the length of your trip is set by the schedule: three nights (Sunday–Wednesday), four nights (Wednesday–Sunday) or a full week, or combinations of these.
Why fly to Dublin
Dublin offers Georgian architecture, Trinity College with its famous library, the Temple Bar quarter and easy trips to the coast at Howth or Malahide. For many people from eastern Slovakia who live and work in Ireland, the route is also the fastest way home without a connection. More about the city is on our Dublin destination page, other direct routes in the destinations overview. If Britain appeals too, read our guide to flights from Košice to Liverpool.
