Flights from Košice to Prague: schedule, duration, tips

Prague is the only destination served every single day from Košice Airport – and the busiest direct route the airport has. Ryanair’s Boeing 737-800 covers the 533 kilometres in roughly an hour and a quarter. One detail is easy to miss when booking, though: the departure time shifts by almost nine hours depending on the day of the week. On Sunday the flight leaves Košice before noon; on Wednesday and Friday not until 20:40.

Who operates the route and how long the flight takes

The Košice – Prague service is operated by Ryanair as flight FR 7516, and FR 7517 in the opposite direction. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800 with 189 single-class seats. The distance between the two airports is 533 kilometres and the scheduled flight time is about one hour and fifteen minutes.

In Prague the aircraft parks at Terminal 2, which handles Schengen flights. That means no passport control on arrival – you walk straight into the arrivals area. Always check the current times in the flight schedule before you travel; an overview of the Irish carrier’s routes from Košice is on our Ryanair page.

The departure time moves by almost nine hours

The route is daily, but daily does not mean at the same time. These were the FR 7516 departures from Košice during one ordinary week, according to the airport’s own schedule:

  • Wednesday – 20:40
  • Thursday – 12:00
  • Friday – 20:40
  • Saturday – 12:00
  • Sunday – 11:45
  • Monday – 13:20
  • Tuesday – 13:50

The gap between the earliest and the latest departure in that same week is eight hours and fifty-five minutes. For a passenger that is a fundamental difference. Leave at 11:45 on a Sunday and you are in Prague shortly after lunch with a whole afternoon ahead of you. Leave at 20:40 on a Wednesday and you step out at Terminal 2 close to ten at night, with your first usable day starting the next morning – for the same fare.

The practical rule is simple: do not look only at the date, look at the departure time on that specific day. The difference between two neighbouring days can decide whether a long weekend gives you three usable days or two. Times also change between seasons, so compare them against the current arrivals and departures before booking.

What changes on 25 October

Summer schedules run until 24 October; the winter season starts on 25 October. Prague stays in Ryanair’s winter programme from Košice – it is one of the five routes the carrier announced for the 2026/2027 season – but the frequency drops from daily to five flights a week. On two days of the week there will be no direct flight to Prague at all, which matters most when you plan the return leg: it is easy to end up staying a day longer than intended.

Baggage on the Prague route

For Ryanair, Košice Airport’s baggage overview lists one cabin bag up to 8 kilograms. For checked baggage it is one piece up to 10 kilograms, or up to three pieces of 20 kilograms each. The Priority package adds a 10-kilogram bag that you take into the cabin alongside the small personal item.

On a flight of just over an hour most passengers are better off travelling with cabin baggage only: check-in is faster and you do not wait at the belt on arrival. We compared the dimensions and rules in detail in our article on Ryanair and Wizz Air cabin baggage.

Before you leave Košice and after you come back

Košice Airport is small and you will clear it faster than a large hub, but two hours before departure is still a sensible target with Ryanair – especially at peak times, when several flights are processed at once. How to reach the airport by car, bus or taxi is summarised on our transport to the airport page, and the options for leaving a car for several days are in the parking overview.

Watch the return leg on the evening flights. The city bus line that links the airport with Košice stops running late in the evening, so if you land back from Prague after that, plan for a taxi or for your own car in the car park.

When Prague is only a stopover

Ryanair sells the Prague service as a standalone flight, not as part of a connecting itinerary. If you need to travel onwards within Europe or beyond, the network routes from Košice are the ones to use: Austrian Airlines flies to Vienna twice a day, LOT Polish Airlines to Warsaw daily and Swiss to Zürich several times a week. Prague from Košice is a destination in its own right – for a long weekend, a business meeting or a family visit.

The full list of cities served directly from Košice, with tips for each one, is in our destinations overview.
