Warsaw

Description of the destination

Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is a city with a rich history that was painstakingly rebuilt after the Second World War and today combines a historic core with a dynamic modern skyline.

What to see in Warsaw

  • Old Town (Stare Miasto) – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, faithfully reconstructed after the war, with Renaissance and Baroque façades, the Royal Castle and the remains of the city walls.
  • Krakowskie Przedmieście – part of the Royal Route, lined with historic palaces, churches and university buildings, continuing into the lively Nowy Świat street with its shops, cafés and restaurants.
  • Palace of Culture and Science – the striking Soviet-era tower that dominates the skyline, home to theatres, a cinema, museums and a viewing terrace.
  • Łazienki Park – the royal park with the Palace on the Isle, gardens and the famous Chopin monument, where free piano concerts are held on summer Sundays.
  • Warsaw Uprising Museum and POLIN Museum – two of the city’s most moving museums, about the 1944 uprising and the history of Polish Jews.
  • Museum of Warsaw – the story of the city and its inhabitants from the Middle Ages to the present day.
  • Multimedia Fountain Park – a modern park by the Old Town with fountain, light and music shows on summer evenings.

Flights from Košice to Warsaw

Warsaw is served from Košice by LOT Polish Airlines all year round, usually several times a week, mostly with Embraer E170/E175 aircraft. The flight itself takes about 55 minutes. Warsaw Chopin Airport is the airline’s main hub, so alongside Vienna and Zurich it is one of three network hubs reachable directly from Košice – with dozens of onward European and long-haul destinations. If both legs are on one booking, the airline takes care of your baggage and rebooking in case of delay; with separate tickets a missed connection is your own responsibility. Always check current departure times in the flight schedule.

Practical information

  • From the airport to the centre: suburban trains (lines S2 and S3) and city buses run from Chopin Airport; the trip to Warszawa Centralna station takes about 20–25 minutes.
  • Best time to visit: May to September, when the weather is most pleasant and there are summer concerts in the parks. Advent is lovely too, with Christmas markets in the centre.
  • Currency: Poland uses the złoty (PLN), not the euro – but card payments are accepted practically everywhere.
  • Getting around: Warsaw has a metro, trams and buses with a single ticket valid on all of them.
  • Documents: Poland is in the EU and the Schengen Area, so a valid ID card or passport is enough.
  • Baggage: hand and checked baggage rules differ between network and low-cost airlines – check them before booking.

Before you fly, see parking at Košice Airport.
