Venice

Description of the destination

Also known as the “City on the Water” or the “Serenissima,” Venice is one of the most romantic and fascinating places in the world. They are located on a lagoon in the northeastern part of Italy and consist of a number of islands connected by bridges and canals.

St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) is the heart of the city and one of the most famous squares in the world. In the square you will find St. Mark’s Cathedral, which is a wonderful example of Byzantine architecture, and the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), which was the seat of the rulers of Venice. Another dominant feature of the square is the Campanile, a high tower with a wonderful view of the city.

The Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto) is the oldest bridge crossing the Grand Canal. It is a historical symbol of the city and, in addition, it provides a beautiful view of the Venetian lagoon. The area around the Rialto Bridge is also full of shops and markets where you can discover traditional Venetian products.

Gondolas and water taxis are characteristic means of transport in Venice. Cruising along romantic canals and across picturesque bridges will provide you with an unforgettable experience. Another unique means of transport are vaporettos, public boats that run along the canals.

Venice is home to several important museums, such as the Galleria dell’Accademia, which hosts paintings by many Italian masters, or the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which presents modern and contemporary art.

Carnival in Venice, which takes place before Lent, is a festive season when the city’s streets and squares are transformed into a scene of colorful masks and costumes. It is a unique opportunity to experience the historical tradition of the carnival.

Gastronomy in Venice is rich and includes various specialties such as cicchetti (small dishes served in restaurants), risotto al nero di seppia (rice with black cuttlefish) and sarde in saor (sardines in marinade).

All in all, Venice is unique and unmistakable. Their historical beauty, romantic atmosphere and the art that pulsates in them make this Italian city one of the most beautiful and desirable places in the world.
