Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, is an elegant metropolis on the banks of the Rhine that blends fashion, art, modern architecture and the region’s famous Rhineland hospitality. 1. Königsallee:
   • This legendary shopping boulevard, known simply as “Kö”, runs alongside a canal lined with old chestnut trees. You will find boutiques of world-famous brands alongside cosy cafés that are well worth a stop.
2. Altstadt and the Rheinuferpromenade:
   • The old town is often called “the longest bar in the world” – hundreds of pubs serving dark Altbier beer are packed into a tiny area. It leads onto a wide promenade along the Rhine, perfect for an evening stroll.
3. MedienHafen:
   • A former harbour turned architectural showcase. Its centrepiece is the curved Neuer Zollhof, designed by Frank Gehry, among the most photographed buildings in Germany.
4. Rheinturm:
   • A 240-metre television tower with an observation deck and a revolving restaurant. On a clear day the view stretches all the way to Cologne.
5. Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen:
   • A first-rate collection of modern art spread across three buildings, featuring works by Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso and Joseph Beuys.
6. Benrath Palace:
   • A pink rococo palace with a French garden and a lake on the southern edge of the city. A pleasant half-day trip away from the bustle of downtown.

Flight connection from Košice to Düsseldorf
After a break of nearly two years, Eurowings has relaunched direct flights between Košice and Düsseldorf, flying Airbus aircraft with a capacity of roughly 144 to 180 seats. The route operates three times a week – Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, in the afternoon – with a flight time of just under two hours. • Airport: Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is Germany’s third-largest airport, located just 8 km north of the city centre. The S11 regional train gets you to the main station in under 15 minutes.
• Getting around: a dense network of U-Bahn, trams and buses covers the city, and the centre itself is easy to explore on foot.
• Best time to visit: May to September. Carnival in late February or early March and the Christmas markets in December each deserve a special mention.
• Tip: Cologne is only about 25 minutes away by train, so you can easily combine both cities in one trip.
