Košice Airport Terminal Services: What to Expect

Košice Airport’s terminal is small, easy to navigate, and free of unnecessary detours – it’s only a few dozen metres from the main entrance to the security checkpoint. Despite its compact size, though, you’ll find decent amenities here: cafés and bars both before and after security, two shops offering duty-free goods and Slovak products, a tobacco and press kiosk, and even a business lounge. In this article, we’ll walk through exactly what awaits you at the airport, so you know where to sit before your flight, where to pick up a gift to take home, and when it’s worth paying for lounge access.

The public area of the terminal: where to wait before security

Before you even reach the security checkpoint – that is, in the publicly accessible part of Terminal T2 – you have a choice of two outlets. Right next to the departures hall you’ll find Fénix Fly Caffe, a bistro serving coffee as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, with outdoor terrace seating available in the summer season. It’s open whenever flights are departing, so you can count on it if you arrive with enough time to spare according to the flight schedule.

The second option is Benze, a café and bistro in one, which has an advantage over the other outlets – it’s open around the clock, 24 hours a day. That makes it handy not only before departure but also after arrival, for example if you’re waiting for someone outside the arrivals hall or landing on an early morning or late night flight. Check the current flight status before you travel in the arrivals and departures section.

Beyond security: bars and quick refreshments

Once you’ve passed through security, on your left heading towards gates A and B you’ll find Bar Runway 01-19. It offers coffee, drinks and various snacks, and if you’re after an unusual souvenir to bring home, you can even buy a plush toy of the airport’s mascot, Letko. The bar is open whenever flights are departing.

Benze also has a second branch in the departures hall, next to gate D. Here you’ll find Slovak wines, Italian coffee, spirits, draught beer, and fresh savoury and sweet pastries – ideal if you fancy something more substantial before your flight than just a coffee to go.

If you’re flying outside the Schengen area, after passing through passport control near gate G you’ll also come across Bar Taxiway Alfa. The range is similar to Runway – coffee, drinks and snacks – and the bar operates during departure times. Košice Airport serves three network hubs (Vienna with Austrian Airlines, Warsaw with LOT Polish Airlines, and Zurich with Swiss), plus low-cost carriers, above all Ryanair, so gates and the route to them can vary depending on your flight. You’ll find an overview of current connections in the destinations section.

Shopping in the departures hall: duty-free and Slovak products

Even though the terminal is small, there’s still room for shopping. All the shops are located beyond security and are open during departure times:

  • Travel Value & Duty Free Shop – located directly in the departures hall, where you can buy alcohol, perfume, cigarettes and cosmetics on presentation of your boarding pass.
  • Slovakia shop – opposite departure gate D, offering Slovak products, drinks, snacks, souvenirs and gifts, perfect if you want to bring a taste of home to someone abroad.
  • Tabak & Press – in the departures hall next to gate D, opposite the security checkpoint, stocking tobacco products, accessories and press.

It’s worth checking the exact rules on permitted liquid quantities and other security requirements in advance in our frequently asked questions section, so nothing catches you by surprise at the airport.

Business lounge: a calm space before your flight

If you’d rather spend your waiting time away from the busier parts of the departures hall, the airport also offers a business lounge. Entry is possible starting two hours before your scheduled departure. Free access is available to passengers holding a business class boarding pass, Star Alliance Gold cardholders flying to Vienna, Warsaw or Zurich (i.e. with Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines or Swiss) together with one guest travelling on the same airline, and holders of Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass cards on any flight.

Other passengers can buy access for €29 per person, for a maximum stay of two hours. Children under two enter free of charge when accompanied by a parent who has purchased a ticket. The lounge’s opening hours vary slightly throughout the week:

  • Monday: 03:00 – 23:00
  • Tuesday: 03:00 – 21:00
  • Wednesday: 03:00 – 21:00
  • Thursday: 03:00 – 23:00
  • Friday: 03:00 – 23:00
  • Saturday: 03:00 – 22:00
  • Sunday: 03:00 – 18:00

We recommend checking current conditions and any possible changes on the official Košice Airport website before your planned trip.

Wi-Fi, an ATM and other practical matters

Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, so you can easily finish off work emails before your flight or let your family know you’ve made it through security. If you need cash, there’s an ATM in the terminal. Don’t expect a dedicated currency exchange office at the airport, though – if you’re planning to exchange a larger amount of money, it’s best to arrange it in the city beforehand so you don’t waste time searching for one at the airport.

Given the terminal’s compact size, you won’t need much time to get from the entrance to your gate, which is especially handy if you’re travelling with children or heavier luggage. Even so, it’s worth arriving with some time to spare – particularly if you still need to sort out parking at the airport or transport from Košice and the surrounding area.

Summary

The terminal at Košice Airport may not be among the largest, but it offers everything you really need – from coffee and refreshments both before and after security, through duty-free and Slovak souvenirs, to a peaceful business lounge for those who want to make their wait more comfortable. Plan these services in advance, and the time spent at the airport can be just as pleasant as the flight itself.
