Málaga and Rome: New Year-Round Direct Flights from Košice

Košice Airport has had a breakthrough spring. Since late March 2026, the eastern Slovak airport has added two new year-round routes – Ryanair now flies to Málaga in Spain, and Wizz Air has connected Košice with Rome. For the region, this means the first-ever direct scheduled service to Spain and the return of the Eternal City to the list of non-stop destinations. Košice now boasts a record twelve regular routes.

Málaga: The First Direct Link to Spain

Ryanair launched the Košice–Málaga route on 30 March 2026. Flights operate twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, all year round – making Málaga the first seaside destination reachable from Košice by air throughout the year. Passenger interest was confirmed on the very first flight: the Boeing 737-800 departed Košice fully booked with 189 passengers on board.

Málaga is the gateway to the Costa del Sol – Andalusia’s sunny coast with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Beyond the beaches, it offers a historic centre with a cathedral and the Alcazaba fortress, a museum dedicated to local son Pablo Picasso, and an excellent base for trips to Granada, Seville or Ronda. Thanks to the year-round schedule, it is also an attractive option for an autumn or winter escape to the sun. Málaga is Ryanair’s sixth route from Košice.

Rome Fiumicino: The Eternal City Within Reach

A day after Málaga, on 31 March 2026, the new Wizz Air route from Košice to Rome took off. Flights serve Rome’s main Fiumicino airport twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Tickets are on sale through December 2026, so this is a year-round connection. Košice Airport’s management had worked towards a direct Rome link for several years, making it one of the most anticipated additions to the network.

Rome needs little introduction – the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon are among the most visited sights in the world. From Fiumicino airport, the city centre is easily reached by the Leonardo Express train or FL1 regional trains. A weekend trip to Rome from eastern Slovakia is finally possible again without connections.

A Record Network: Twelve Regular Routes

With the two new Mediterranean destinations, Košice Airport’s network has grown to a record twelve regular routes – the most in its history. Alongside the new additions, airlines have also increased frequencies on popular services to Bratislava, Prague and Zadar in Croatia. Practical Information Before You Fly

Before heading to the airport, always check the current status of your flight in our arrivals and departures overview – with low-cost carriers, times can change at short notice. We recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours before departure.

If you are travelling by car, paid car parks are available right in front of the terminal – details on prices and booking can be found on the parking page. Public transport to the airport was also significantly improved in April 2026: bus line 23 from the centre of Košice now runs 52 times a day on weekdays and 29 times at weekends.

Low-cost carriers usually sell their cheapest tickets shortly after sales open and outside the peak season – so on a new route it pays to book early and to watch Tuesday and Wednesday departures, which tend to be cheaper than weekend ones.
